Ohlson Named Director of Resources and Rates Division
Fritha Ohlson

Fritha Ohlson has been selected to serve as Director of the Division of Resources and Rates at Southwestern Power Administration (Southwestern), effective March 23, 2014. Ohlson, who has a 16-year background in data analysis and project management, has been with Southwestern since 2006.

Ohlson began her career with Electronic Data Systems as a project manager in applications development for the Engineering and Maintenance Division of American Airlines in Tulsa, Oklahoma. In 2006, she accepted a position at Southwestern as a Systems Operations Specialist in what was then the Division of Scheduling and Operations, where she initially focused on short-term hydropower scheduling and water resource management. Over time she was tasked with providing detailed analysis in support of dissolved oxygen and other issues related to fisheries located downstream of the hydropower projects.

As her responsibilities grew, Ohlson was promoted in 2009 to a Civil Engineer (Hydrologic) position, which greatly expanded her responsibilities in the areas of long-term resource management and competing uses. She represents Southwestern on several multi-agency/stakeholder committees and working groups, and is involved in determining impacts to the hydropower water resource from actual, proposed, or anticipated changes, such as legislation, developing markets, and contractual changes. "Increasing demands for water from the multipurpose water resource projects from which we market hydropower means that Southwestern must coordinate, negotiate, and develop solutions with various diverse interest groups while protecting the Federal hydropower interest," says Ohlson.

As Director of the Division of Resources and Rates, Ohlson oversees management of the hydropower water resource, development of Southwestern's power and transmission rates, and accounting and invoicing for the energy marketed by the agency.

Ohlson holds a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering and a master’s degree in engineering and technology management, both from Oklahoma State University, and is a certified Project Management Professional.
